wreck encounter
Encounter Context & Prerequisites
-
Location: Numidian Prime, deep within a dense, corrosive jungle canopy at the crash site of a Clone Wars-era Separatist Frigate.
-
Mission: Escort some NPC to an unknown location and back with some salvaged goods. More/higher value good resulsts in higher payment there is some wiggle room. but also payment penalties if equipment or npc get damaged.
-
Employer: The Party is hired by a pantoran expedition leader named Keeloss "Key" Odo-Vey. He is a contractor to an external minor faction (some rich person) and his
current mission is salvaging a seperatists frigate which crashed into the jungle more than 10 years ago. Key and hissecurity expert (loyal friend) H'sharr, a catharveteranveteran.are -
on local worker. Since the party is more combat capable than technically, the technician are locally hired, and the party is offered a job as an escort to protect the equipment and technicians (more payment if higher value loot is salvaged, less payment if casualties or destroyed equipment).Mission-plan: Since the exact position of the wreck is not known some scanning site is to be set up (by the npc) and defended (by the players) when the expedition reaches the general area where the wreck is suspected. the scanning is completely done by the npc BUT the local wildlife is interrupting the process. The party needs to scare (and maybe even fight) them off so that the technicians get more details before deciding to stop the scan and go "just go into the direction they had something big on the scanners". there will be no skill check for the technician NPCs, the level of success will be purely dependent on the PCs protection
success.success, to give the players agency while bridging the missing scanning/technical skills of the more combat heavy group. but the real consequences will only be revealed in the secondphase.part. Up until this point I have prepped theadventure.adventurebutwith detailed NPC backgrounds and a battlemap for the encounter. But the secondphasepart still needs some work. I have different ideas of what might happen at the wreck:
Wreck Ideas:
I have not decided which idea will happen in my game. the others are not relevant. also none of the ideas feels perfect so i am open to more ideas.
A seperatist modified Basilisk Droid on the run
A basilisk droid merged with a super tactical droids brain is still active and hunts around the wreck. a mote complete (better protected) scan reveals more information about the basilisk and may even some weakness. since the droid is rare these days keeloss would reward a capture greatly while frowns upon destroying it. TBD. Note: Maybe to hard encounter for the group
Fuel Contamination
Some experimental fuel cells leakleaked into the ships hallways and make it highly explosive
Scene 1:
The encounter begins outside the massive, jungle-choked hull of the Separatist frigate. While the NPC technicians set up heavy tools at the default entry point, the PCs form a defensive perimeter against the encroaching jungle wildlife.
If the players succeeded in their previous protect-the-scanning session, the data has already warned the team about volatile hyper-matter fuel pockets venting behind the default entry hatch, allowing the NPCs to safely pivot to a secondary maintenance spine.
If the players failed the previous scan, the NPCs blindly prepare to cut(not into the contaminatedjungle) defaultand hatch, make the inside highly explosive in some areas. The more information the scan could reveal, the better the npc technicians are prepared. In the worst case they would cause an explosion and need to be rescued by the group.
Biological Infestation
The ship was carrying a bigsecret explosionsshipment shakesof upexotic everythingfauna for a Separatist bio-lab. The cargo broke open and aeither big portion oftransformed the loot is destroyed (50% less payment, as a delayed punishment for the failed protection of the scanning, see Scene 3).
Scene 2:
The Safe Path:If the danger is avoided via a successful scan or quick player intervention, the technicians safely open a secondary maintenance hatch. The entry is clean, silent, and structurally intact. The contract remains unchanged, and the party movesinsidewith their full payout guaranteed. The Explosion Path:If the danger is not spotted, the technician ignites the plasma cutter, instantly detonating the pressurized fuel pockets inside the compartment. The blast destroys that sectionof the ship or its immediate surrounding jungle to its new habitat.*Note: I have not found an interesting exotic fauna for this and
triggersneedasuggestions.severeConstraints:structuralDocollapse.notTheusePCsspider-likearecreatures,shieldeddontfromgo into theblastAlienby the ship's external hull geometry, but the explosion inflicts casualties on the NPC crew and destroys a portion of the accessible salvage.
Scene 3:
Following a botched explosion entry, the employer is furious and deeply shaken. Citing the strict "casualty and hardware loss" clauses in their original agreement, he legally slashes the party's baseline completion payout.
If no botchedvibe (tbd)Survival leeds the employer to send the party on a secondary mission, which is (tbd)Horror).
before diving deeper into any idea, give me a general verdict for each idea next to 5 mote ideas of what might be the second phasepart of the adventure.
